Resources To Help You Care For Your Wild Horse or Burro: Trainers, Clinics, Vets, Farriers, Haulers, Books and VideosAdopting a Wild Horse or Burro can be the Adventure of a Lifetime! But it is also challenging. Luckily, there are many resources to help. We have compiled a few lists here. If you live in the North Bay area (Marin, Sonoma, Solano, & Napa Counties), volunteer Wendee Walker has compiled an excellent resource listing: (Click on the green link) Finding veterinarians and farriers who are willing to work with wild and formerly-wild horses and burros can sometimes be difficult. Our "Vets & Farriers" page lists professionals with whom current adopters have had good experiences. There are doubtless many others who are willing and able to help, and this list is not in any way meant to imply that other vets or farriers are not recommended or competent. In fact, if you have someone to recommend, please contact us! The "Trainers and Clinics" page lists sources for help training your horse or burro in a humane, safe way. "Books & Videos" lists sources for popular materials that have been valuable to many adopters. "Tools" includes useful information including how to read brands, how to evaluate body condition, and how to estimate a horse's age. "Stables" lists boarding facilities that have been recommended by adopters as Mustang-friendly, Finally, "Haulers" is the beginning of a list of haulers who will transport new adoptees to their new homes.
